The Project.
For this project, I redesigned the website for the comic book company Mile High Comics. The original site was difficult for customers to navigate, hard to read, and was generally outdated. I created a new design of the site that allows customers to easily view products and their information.
At the beginning of the design phase, I analyzed the company’s branding, mottos, statements, the current site design, and the overall usability of the site. What I found was that it was hard for customers to search for comics when there were multiple search bars, the customers had to know the names of the comics they were looking for as the images were too small, and the site navigation needed to be simplified into one navigation bar.

After completing the research phase, I began sketching several different layout options. I created several basic designs which prioritized different features, eventually deciding on the new layout of multiple rows of scrollable titles, so that more titles can appear on the home page. By clicking on an item, the customer can see its price and a small description of the comic book. The company’s mission statement and story was added to the site to make a connection to the customer base and build trust. A wireframe was completed next, to confirm the usability of the site, it’s navigability, and further plan the features of the site.
Once the bare bones of the design were laid out, I began on the design prototype in Figma. I chose a playful , sleek, and modern design style to bring the site up to current web standards as well as help the company portray their love and excitement for comics. Responsive and accessible web design was a important part of the project, as the old site design was hard for customers to read and view on smaller devices. The new computer, tablet, and mobile designs all take into account the sizing of the device and the conditions the user may be viewing the site in. Instead of multiple search bars, the user can now search for comics using the filter button, and selecting which comics they would like to be shown in the results. Cart and wishlist collapsible side overlays were created for users to easily access items they wish to buy or save for later, making the checkout process less complicated, ultimately driving sales. When a user clicks on an item, the product overlay shows up, informing them of the series, year the comic was released, the price of the item, and a short description.
The new design allows for customers to easily browse the company’s products, driving more sales, as well as learn more about the company developing a sense of trust and understanding of the business.
