The Project.
For this app project, I created a mobile-friendly hiking app design that allows users to find local trails in their area, learn more about them, view them on a interactive map, and read hiking related articles.
A more modern design approach as well as a neutral and natural color scheme was used to give the app a fresh, fun look to appeal to nature-loving outdoors people and those who love hiking. A trail feature function was prioritized for the users so that they can make sure the trail has the scenery that they wish to see, as well as let them know if a trail has disability accommodations.
The beginning of my hiking app project began with sketching and wire framing certain features and ideas, specifically thinking of accessibility features in mind, such as the text-to-speech button on articles and trail descriptions, and colorblind friendly backgrounds, text, and button colors.
From there, I created an app mockup from the existing wireframes, designing the button icons, determining the user flow of the app, and refining features to be as accessible and simple to navigate as possible.
Lastly, I turned the app mockup into a prototype design using Adobe After Effects, to make sure that from the user’s perspective, transition elements, scroll speed, buttons, and sliders all functioned as planned.
